BURNLEY have offered sbo128 Northern Ireland Under-21 international Conor Mitchell a new deal to extend his stay at Turf Moor.
The 21-year-old, who has been with the club for six years, is mulling over fresh terms after a season in which he featured regularly for the under-23s, trained with the senior set-up and enjoyed a loan spell with National League side Chester.
Mitchell's fellow young goalkeeper Aiden Stone has signed a new 12-month deal with the Clarets. The 18-year-old signed from non-league side Brocton at the end of last season and has impressed in his first campaign with the club.
Third-year scholars Mark Howarth, 18, and Tunde Bayode, 19, have been offered professional deals, following on from Ollie Younger, Dwight McNeil and James Clarke, who have signed their first professional deals.
“They have all deserved those professional deals and the chance to develop their careers further at Burnley,” said Academy Manager Jonathan Pepper.
“The same goes for the others whose stays have been extended and we look forward to them kicking on next season with the under-23s and, hopefully, in the future at senior level.
“Inevitably there are also players leaving us and we hope they have benefitted from their time at Burnley and can go on and enjoy successful careers elsewhere.”
Defender Scott Wilson, 18, has had his scholarship extended into a third year to stay on in the Clarets’ Academy, but a handful of young professionals are to be released at the end of the season.
Sam Layton, Rahis Nabi, Harry Limb, Khius Metz, Lewis King, Jordan Barnett, sbo128 Arlen Birch, Brad Jackson and Jamie Thomas will be leaving Turf Moor.
Former Spennymoor United forward Craig Ellison, 17, has also left the club, while five scholars have also been told they will not be kept on.
Third-years, goalkeeper Connor King and striker Tommy Wood, have not been offered professional deals.
And second-years Leighton Egan, sbo128 Kwazinkosi Mpofu and Tristan Jumeau are also being released.
